Many people do not realize it, but sitting at a normal fixed desk all day can actually be quite bad for your health. It can cause everything from minor problems such as mild joint pain to increase your risk of dying early. Some recent studies have even suggested that people who sit over 6 hours each day will die at a younger age than someone who only sits for 3, even if they exercise. The good news is that standing desks, adjustable height workstations, stand up desks and similar products can help improve your health and reduce this risk.
The main disadvantage of a height adjustable desk is cost. Unfortunately they don`t come cheap and an entry-level model will set you back at least $500. However, this is a big improvement on a few years ago where a four figure outlay was the norm. You may also need to extend some of the cables and leads to your equipment if the standard ones aren`t long enough. This is pretty easy to resolve with either extension leads or slightly longer cables. If you can cross these two hurdles then there is no reason not to switch to a sit stand desk.
